Frequently Asked Questions
Are NAAFI part of the military?
Although we work alongside the armed forces, we’re a commercial, not-for-profit organisation. We’re here to provide retail, leisure and catering services to services personnel throughout the world.
Will I have to wear a uniform?
It depends. If you're working within the Expeditionary Forces Institute as a member of the TA, you will have to wear an army uniform, but it's up to you if you want to join as a member of the TA or not. In whichever role you undertake within NAAF we will provide you with a uniform (except for corporate roles).
What does NAAFI offer the services?
When we started in 1921, we provided a friendly face, a cup of tea and a biscuit (Char & Wad). Things have changed a lot since then, and we’ve grown to become a leading leisure, retail and catering organisation.
Would I really travel the world with you?
To be honest, it depends where you work. We’re a global organisation, and a job with HM Ships or EFI in one of our Active Zones will indeed see you roaming the globe. Most of our employees are based in Germany and the UK, however opportunities in the UK are limited.
How many people do you employ?
Around 2,300 people across the globe, most of which are Customer Service Assistants or Supervisors.
Where will I be based?
Pubs, clubs, shops and catering establishments are located throughout Germany, Afghanistan, on ships and further afield. Our two offices in Darlington (UK) and Germany, offer full support services like HR, finance, commercial and technical support.
